Driving a motor vehicle is among the most perilous activities an employee engages in, exposing them to personal harm and the potential to injure others. Each incident involving an employee driver carries substantial costs for their employer and can lead to severe human consequences.

DriverCare CoPilot offers a solution aimed at reducing accidents by addressing the unsafe driving behaviors that contribute to them. The platform employs detection technologies to identify unsafe driving events, enhance driver awareness, and leverage behavioral modification principles to promote safer driving habits.

Utilizing smartphone sensors, DriverCare CoPilot captures accelerometer and gyroscope data to monitor:
<ul>
 <li>Phone motion</li>
 <li>Screen interaction</li>
 <li>Acceleration-based events (hard braking, hard cornering, acceleration, and excessive speeding)</li>
</ul>

Driver Awareness
The application features facilitate heightened awareness of risky driving behaviors. After each trip, drivers receive a prompt on their phones shortly after completion to review their trip score. This alert is designed for delivery when the employee is not driving.

Upon engaging with the alert, users are presented with a comprehensive overview of their most recent journey, including a rating ranging from 0 to 5 stars, along with detailed insights into how specific behaviors influenced their score. The app visually maps detected unsafe events, enabling drivers to examine locations where incidents occurred and identify challenging road features, such as on-ramps, off-ramps, and particular intersections.

Moreover, each recorded event includes a driving tip explaining its significance and associated risks.

Driver Behavior Modification
Effective behavior modification hinges on timely feedback and the integration of rewards and consequences. DriverCare CoPilot applies this proven approach through its proprietary use of smartphone sensors that ensure high fidelity in capturing driving activity, thereby fostering trust among users regarding the accuracy of feedback received. Immediacy is crucial; feedback is delivered within minutes, allowing drivers to correlate their actions with outcomes effectively.

The system incorporates three tiers of rewards: achievement rewards for consistent safe driving; competitive rewards where drivers rank against peers on a leaderboard; and recognition rewards from managers acknowledging top performers. Organizations may enhance recognition initiatives by providing monetary incentives for outstanding drivers.

Conversely, consequences are manifested through lower scores, diminished rankings, and decreased recognition for poor driving performance. Companies can amplify the impact of these consequences by linking DriverCare CoPilot scores to defined performance standards within fleet policies.
